While a safety inspection in mid-August confirmed 57 faults with the train line’s system, the rail line’s builder said all issues have since been addressed
(Beijing) – The Guangzhou to Shenzhen high-speed rail officially opened December 26. Safety issues raised during the trial period of the rail line were resolved before the official launch, according to the route developer. A safety inspection by the China Academy of Railway Sciences discovered 57 faults with the train system in mid-August. The rail line also has the same signaling technology which caused the July 23 train crash. The route developer, Guangzhou Shenzhen Hong Kong Express Rail Link Co., Ltd. said the problems have since been fixed. The 102-kilometer line has a maximum speed of 300 kilometers per hour and seats 556 passengers. Beijing National Railway Research & Design Institute of Signal & Communication Co., Ltd. (CRSC), signal equipment supplier of bullet trains from Wenzhou train crash, was found to be the same supplier of signaling systems for the new line. Pilot runs of the Guangzhou to Shenzhen line started on July 26. Ma Cheng, president of China Railway Signal & Communication, died of a heart attack during a routine inspection in Shenzhen.
